Steve Poethke, P.E.

Vice President
Civil and Environmental Engineering Services
Steve’s responsibilities also include quality management of our projects and supervising the efforts of a portion of the company staff.

Steve joined Cooper Engineering in 1993 with 10 years of structural design experience. His background includes considerable design and construction experience with all materials including timber, steel, and concrete utilizing precast and cast-in-place methods.

While at Cooper Engineering, Steve has been responsible for the design of approximately four dozen bridges for the Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT). Using WisDOT guidelines, he provided concrete culvert design details for a regional precast company, which are used on many WisDOT projects. Steve also provides for the same company the design specifications of many special precast structures for use on WisDOT and municipal projects.

Steve’s experience includes design of multiple dam reconstruction and rehabilitation projects and numerous buildings (both as building designer of record and as a structural sub-consultant to architects). Steve has collaborated on many industrial structural design projects and performed scores of structural inspections for private parties and for the insurance industry, including expert witness testimony.

In his free time, Steve enjoys spending time with his family, golfing with his son, cycling with friends, and training for the Birkie (the American Birkebeiner cross country ski race).
